The terrorists of Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda declared war on the United States of America. On September 11, 2001, nineteen of these trained terrorists hijacked three American jetliners and used them to kill nearly 3000 people in the U.S. The United States military has been fighting terrorism ever since. That war has led us through Afghanistan and Iraq and many terrorists have been eliminated. However, there are more who are still willing to fight. On April 24, 2007 a group linked to al-Qaeda used two suicide truck bombs in Baghdad in an attack that left nine American paratroopers dead as this bloody and very difficult war continues.
If the people of the free world and especially, the people of the United States of America want to continue living in freedom we cannot let the forces of terrorism claim victory. We must never capitulate to the terrorists who would see every American citizen dead if they could and, we must not give in to the cowardly forces within our own country that would undermine the war on terrorism for their own political gain.
Senator Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate Majority Leader, is one of the leading voices for these cowardly forces. For the sake of a few extra votes or another couple of seats in the Senate, the Majority Leader is more than willing to sacrifice America's young men and women on the altar of politics. Demoralizing young American soldiers brings him no shame. To the Senate Majority Leader, another dead American equals another vote for his Democratic Party. Harry Reid and others like him have gone to extremes to ensure our country's defeat in the Iraq war. On public television, Harry Reid announced to the world's most vicious terrorists that America has lost the war. He has given the terrorists hope and encouragement by publicly announcing that the American people are united against the war. He has done everything possible to strangle the morale of the American soldiers and instill in them the same defeatist attitude that seeps from the pores of the Democratic Party. With politicians like Harry Reid, who needs al-Qaeda?
As the father of an American soldier, I find Harry Reid despicable and, it is insulting to me and to every American citizen, past and present that this coward can command the media attention that he does without being challenged for the treasonous comments he makes. Are there no American patriots left in Washington D.C.'s Congressional offices to challenge the words of this elected traitor? Even those who stand in opposition to the prolonged war should have enough patriotism left in them to realize that what this man has said gives encouragement to our enemies while it demoralizes our troops. There are 535 seats in the U.S. Congress and it appears that not one of those seats is filled with an honorable man possessing sufficient backbone to rise up and give voice to the outrage that so many Americans feel at the words of Senator Reid. If this is true then it is little wonder that al Qaeda and those like them believe that the United States of America is a paper tiger, the home of a fearful and cowardly people so distracted by their mindless pursuit of sensual gratification that they need to be exterminated before they contaminate the rest of the world with their hedonistic lifestyles. Even sadder yet, if they are right and we are the sort of people that would send it's young people out to fight a war while we jeer and shout insult at them from the safety of the U.S. Congress then, we deserve whatever fate would hand us because we have become corrupted by our evil and we are well beyond any hope of salvation.
